STEP 5

New Zealand Visa & Quarantine

New Zealand Quarantine (as of July 18, 2021)

Currently, only New Zealand citizens and permanent residents are allowed to obtain vouchers to enter New Zealand from anywhere other than Australia.  These vouchers allocate places in a managed isolation or quarantine facility for 14 days.  The cost of staying in this facility is approximately $3,000-5,500 NZ = $2,100-3,800 US and must be paid by the traveller.

Airlines are not permitted to board you if you do not have a voucher, unless you are exempt from using the Managed Isolation Allocation System - https://www.miq.govt.nz/travel-to-new-zealand/quarantine-free-travel/

For Australia, there is a “country bubble” arrangement with New Zealand for quarantine free travel.  However, this arrangement can change at any time on an Australian state-by-state basis, resulting in travellers being stranded awaiting return to either country. This can include the need to be in managed isolation, possibly at the traveller’s expensehttps://www.immigration.govt.nz/about-us/covid-19/border-closures-and-exceptions/you-are-in-a-quarantine-free-travel-zone/you-are-coming-from-australia.

As people become fully vaccinated, border controls may ease and we will continue to monitor the situation and advise should this occur.  A report is expected in mid August that will address the NZ border controls and how vaccines will play a role.

We are hopeful that vouchers for February will be available to non-NZ citizens/permanent residents in October/November, with a reduced number of quarantine days.  When vouchers are available, you can get your voucher by registering on the Managed Isolation Allocation System. - Register for a voucher for managed isolation(external link)

The above will be updated as further information becomes available.

Should the situation not resolve by October, we will look to design a virtual event.
